Q:
What is the difference between the Flex-Gap and Aire-Gap backflow
prevention devices? What do they do?
A:
Both perform the same function of preventing a reversal of water flow
which can siphon chemical back into the water supply, however they
operate on two different principles. Flex-Gap uses a sleeve that expands
(or "flexes") when water flows through it. When the water
flow stops, the sleeve contracts acting as a one-way valve, preventing
any reversal in water flow. The Aire-Gap has an open space (or "gap")
that the water stream shoots across. When the water flow stops, there
is no possible way for the water flow to reverse.
